3 Tips for Staying Healthy While Working from Home
3 Tips for Staying Healthy While Working from Home

A lot of my calls with clients lately have revolved around how to stay healthy and productive while working from home. So, I thought what better time than the present to share some of what I’ve been talking about with my clients? Here are some tips on staying healthy and productive while you are working from home:

1. Move Your Body Every Day

This might sound like common sense to some and extreme to others. But, I think it is so important, especially if you’re at home all day, sitting for long periods of time. Moving your body every day is going to help you feel better emotionally, physically, and mentally.

You don’t need to do an intense workout every day, but try to make an effort to move your body for at least 30 minutes of exercise. You could do this all at once or take three, 10-minute movement breaks throughout the day.  Ideally, this is something you enjoy, like a walk outside or your favorite online yoga or workout class.

2. Schedule a Lunch Break  (Possibly a Snack Break, Too)

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make when working from home is that they don’t take time to eat and nourish their bodies. They either mindlessly eat throughout the day, or skip meals all day long only to overeat once work is done.

An easy way to avoid both scenarios is to schedule in your eating times just as you would schedule in a meeting. This ensures you’re fueled throughout the day and helps prevent overeating once work is done. It is essential to schedule in at least one meal — such as lunch — but it might also be helpful to schedule in one or two snack breaks, too.

3. Make Your Meals Ahead of Time

This one is a game changer. No one wants to chop veggies or grill chicken halfway through a work day. So, make your life easier by prepping lunch and snacks ahead so they’re ready to go.

I promise your day will run so much smoother when you do this, and you will feel healthier as a result.

Need a little snack inspiration? Here are some pre-planned snack options I like when I work from home:

  • Apples and nut butter: Pre-sliced apple + 2 tablespoons almond butter
  • Peanut butter blueberry rice cake: Rice cake + peanut butter + blueberries
  • Veggies and hummus: 1-2 cups pre-chopped veggies + ¼ cup hummus
  • Ants on a log: celery sticks + sunflower seed butter + raisins
  • Yogurt parfait: plain yogurt + fresh fruit + handful of walnuts + cinnamon
